Introduction

BioShock Infinite is a first-person shooter and the third game in the BioShock series. It was developed by Irrational Games and published by 2K Games(Aspyr for OS X) in 2013. It is available on the PC, OS X, PS3 and Xbox 360. It uses a modified version of Unreal Engine 3.

Infinite is not a direct sequel/prequel to any of it's predecessors, although it has similar features and concepts. The game takes place in 1912, in the floating city of Columbia. Like it's predecessors, Infinite deals with a remote city built and also cast into chaos because of extreme ideals. In contrast to BioShock's Rapture, which was built upon Objectivism, Columbia was built by Zachary Hale Comstock with "American Exeptionalism" in mind. That idea is soon perverted into Ultranationalism and Social Darwinism.

The game begins when the protagonist, an ex-Pinkerton Booker DeWitt is sent to a remote lighthouse at the coast of Maine. His mission is to infiltrate the floating city of Columbia and bring back a girl, Elizabeth, in order to pay his gambling debts. Somehow, though, he is recognized, labeled as a "false shepherd" and persecuted, which makes the rescue mission more complicated than anyone could ever imagine.
