Rumour: Nintendo will keep Melee playable on Switch

The big esports title may have a bright future on the new console.
Sam Bishop 7 diciembre 2016

Super Smash Bros. Melee is still a very popular title in the esports circuit, despite being released 15 years ago, and this year's Smash Summit 3 was an indicator of that, as the popular tournament saw Armada clinch victory over Hungrybox. In fact, there are many tournaments for Melee right now, and that's why the latest rumour about the Nintendo Switch may be of interest to competitors of the game.

There is a report that the Nintendo Switch will support GameCube games, and one of the alleged reasons for supporting the GameCube Virtual Console is to keep Super Smash Bros. Melee easily playable.

If this is true, this can only mean good news for the future of the game that has already maintained popularity for a decade and a half, and it remains to be seen if its true. It wouldn't be too far-fetched, however, as big tournaments like Evo have Melee featured, so getting in on that would be wise. Do you think bringing Melee to the Switch is an important step for the future of the game, or can it continue as it is?
