We've been seeing a lot of conventional sports teams signing esports players for a number of different games recently. Most notably, we saw the Philadelphia 76ers buy out the huge organisation Dignitas and another team, Apex, but European teams are joining in as well.
A while back we saw VFL Wolfsburg and West Ham sign their own FIFA players, and La Liga team Deportivo Alavés have now signed their own FIFA player too. The news was broken via a Tweet from the team's official Twitter account, saying that they have entered esports by creating a FIFA team. The tweet also confirms that the one leading the team is Rafa Riobó "Ralfitita," the number one Spanish FIFA player.
It won't be surprising if we see many more teams get their own players in the near future, and seeing formal esports leagues set up. We've already seen trademarks filed for the 'eBundesliga' in Germany, as well, so the future of esports in Europe seems bright. Would you watch a FIFA 17 league?
