France passes decree establishing bases of esports

Including defining a professional player and age regulations.
Sam Bishop 15 mayo 2017

As reported by as.com, France has passed a decree affecting French Digital Law which establishes the bases of esports in the country.

Included in this is the definition of a professional video game player, which is someone who competes in games within a company authorised by the Digital Ministry and who gets paid for their work. In regards to contracts, these may not be over five years in duration (as most players retire before reaching 30 years of age), but they cannot be less than 12 months, aside from specific cases of player substitutions, suspensions, or for competitions lasting less time. There are also other regulations included, as those under 12 years of age can't compete in monetised tournaments.

This is a big step in the world of esports, however, as France is not only recognising the size of esports, but also taking steps to ensure everything is conducted ethically, so hopefully we can see more countries do the same. What measures should also be taken in the future?
