Bundesliga soccer club Borussia Dortmund had just recently terminated its partnership with Konami for PES 2019 (LINK), and many suspected that the topic of eSports would also be off the table for them. Far from it: Now the BVB has entered into a cooperation with the platform eSports.com for at least three year. BVB Managing Director Carsten Cramer and eSports.com CEO Michael Broda have agreed to offer special promotions to BVB fans on eSports.com. The partnership will be used primarily to activate the young target group of those interested in eSports - tournaments with professional players are planned for well-known eSports titles, it is said. This does not exclude Pro Evolution Soccer 2019, but the focus should be FIFA 19, we say.
Carsten Cramer, whose Boss and BVB chairman Hans-Joachim Watzke has a different opinion on the eSports topic ("I think it sucks completely"), said: "With our new partner eSports.com we have found an ideal platform to reach the increasingly important target group of people interested in eSports. It is particularly important to us to place our core business - football - with this target group. A website with a reach of millions and a discriminating clientele is of course ideal for this. Both partners and especially the fans will benefit, and I look forward to working together." Michael Broda said: "The networks and fans of Borussia complement each other perfectly with our existing cooperations in the American and Asian region. We both want to exploit the huge potential of these markets - so it makes sense to do it together."
