Footballing legend Ronaldo Luis Nazário de Lima (or simply Ronaldo, as most of us know him) has been added to the line up of sporting figures that are investing money into esports, buying stakes in the Brazilian esports team CNB Esports Club.
Ronaldo invested in the club with Igor Trafane, the federal CEO of the Brazilian series of poker, and poker pro André Akkari, with the three of them combined buying 50% of the organisation. The club's original owners, brothers Cleber "Fuzi" Fonseca and Carlos "Fury" Junior, still own the other 50% too, as well as the management of the team.
The news of this investment was announced on myCNB, the news page owned by the same company as the team. According to the article Akkari, who is a very close friend of Ronaldo's, was the alleged driving force behind making the investment after visiting various teams earlier in the year.
Now arguably Ronaldo is one of the largest sporting people to place money into esports teams at the current time, experiencing huge success at club and international level during his career. Do you think he is the biggest sporting figure to invest in esports?
