ESL and Sliver.TV have recently partnered up to deliver esports tournaments via the medium of VR, and the IEM Oakland tournament this weekend will be the first to try this out.

You can watch a trailer for the tournament here, and the VR view will show live statistics and different viewing options. The VR view will be from the normal floating camera as well as from the perspective of players simultaneously.

"We're thrilled to work with ESL to showcase our VRLiveStats technology," Mitch Liu, co-founder and CEO of Sliver.TV, said. "Our vision is to transform the esports spectator landscape forever, and incorporating augmented live stats into our VR 360 live-streams of CS:GO and LoL is a big step towards this vision. Fans around the world can now access valuable game stats and information in real-time, all within a natural, immersive VR experience."

This isn't the first time that VR spectating has featured in esports, as last month we reported that ESL One New York featured VR streaming. Do you think it will take off in esports?
