Doublelift announces his retirement

After over a decade of playing professionally, the League of Legends veteran is moving on.

It's been a pretty crazy off-season for seeing veteran players make radical changes. We've seen Rekkles leave Fnatic, Bjergsen retire, and now another TSM legend is moving on, as Yiliang "Peter" "Doublelift" Peng has also announced his retirement. That's right, although they may not look it, the old guard of League of Legends are well... old, in an esports sense.

Doublelift revealed his retirement with a follow-up post detailing his decision in further depth. He started by mentioning how much of an impact League has had on his life, and how competing was "the method in which I came to know myself."

He further elaborated on his career, looking over each major part briefly, from his first LCS trophy, to winning eight of his last eleven splits, before capping off the statement with a heartfelt conclusion.

"I am extremely fortunate to have played professional League for over a decade, literally over a third of my life. To have been able to play alongside truly great players, coaches, and staff, who propelled me to greater levels. To have a huge fanbase who cares about and supports me, many of them so much that they feel my happiness in victories and pain in losses. I feel deeply grateful for the opportunity to make a career out of the one thing in life I have loved above all else. I travelled the world, made unforgettable memories, played in front of huge crowds, and saw my dreams come true. All of it was possible because I had the support of the fans and community."

"Thank you for watching me grow from a hopeless kid into a successful adult. I'll be starting a new chapter of life now, and I'd like your support in that too."

We recently reported on the new TSM line-up, without veterans Bjergsen and Doublelift, but do you think they will be able to reflect the success these guys achieved?
